BERLIN ART WEEK 2017 – FAIRS & OPENINGS AROUND TOWN

Berlin Art Week is back celebrating its 6th anniversary in the German capital. Exhibitors and visitors alike enjoy an exciting mix of openings, performances, fairs, award ceremonies, artist films, and numerous special events during the week. The rich variety of this fall program is made possible by the joint collaboration of cultural institutions,  museums, galleries, artist, collectors, and project spaces and draws international attention.

This year, visitors enjoy large-scale exhibitions on established artists such as Monica Monica Bonvicini, Danny Lyon, Willem de Rooij, a retrospective on Harun Farocki, and countless artists from various genres.

Two concurrent art fairs will be the focus of attention. While “Positions Berlin” continues to expand, “art berlin” (abc art berlin contemporary in collaboration with Art Cologne) is now kicking off a new start for Berlin Art Week.

A total of 110 international and national galleries from 16 different countries will be part of the newly founded art fair art berlin, which emerged from the partnership of abc art berlin contemporary and Art Cologne.

Some of the highlights in terms of gallery shows is “The Notion of Mutable Space ” by Gordon Matta-Clark at Thomas Schulte Gallery as well as an exciting selection of Thomas Scheibitz etchings and photogravures at Niels Borch Jensen Gallery. The Notion of Mutable Space is a fundamental element and a postulation in Gordon Matta-Clark’s thinking. The eponymous show assembles over 100 original works, which broaches the subject of Matta-Clark’s architectural concept and how it finds expression in his oeuvre and practice.

As part of Berlin Art Week 2017, taking place from 14 – 17  September at Station Berlin, art berlin exhibits young and established contemporary art as well as modern art. On Friday, September 14th, the Berlin galleries participating at art berlin offer to visit their exhibitions until 9 pm.
